HTML vs. Plaintext Emails
Problem: Sometimes patients complain that the links in our confirmation and reminder emails are not “clickable” hyperlinks.
Discussion: Maximizing delivery of our email is something that we consider extremely important, as discussed here.
One step that we take to maximize delivery is sending only plaintext emails, instead of HTML emails.
Plaintext emails are less likely to be caught by spam filters; however, they do have a drawback in that it is not possible to add clickable links into plaintext emails.
In practice, we find this a reasonable compromise because almost all email clients (E.g. Gmail, Outlook), will automatically convert links in plaintext emails into clickable hyperlinks (see screenshot).
